We've been learning about nouns (people, places or things) and verbs (action words), and how we need both in our sentences. We read the story Move! by Steve Jenkins & Robin Page. It's a book about animals and how they move. Then we wrote down all of the vivid verbs we could find. We also read If You Were a Verb by Michael Dahl.
Each student had either a noun or verb, and then had to find their match.

FIRE PREVENTION ASSEMBLY
Our school recently held a fire prevention assembly for K-2. Students rotated to five stations to learn about fire safety. The class asked good questions, and built their schema on the subject. The homework from the firemen and women was to learn their phone numbers and their addresses.

STEMfest
This weekend I attended NIU's annual STEMfest. It was a great opportunity for even teachers to learn about science, technology, engineering and math. Different departments at the university, as well as local organizations and businesses, set up booths around the Convocation Center to showcase learning in their fields of study.
A view from above of the different stations, run by college students and professionals in the area of the sciences.
Lemons, and potatoes are some of the fruit and vegetables that can produce energy!
Legos are a good way to practice engineering skills.
My nephew and I learned about balloon-powered cars.
A great day of learning had by all!
