Learning About the Craft of Acting From a Fairy Tale Expert!

Hello Room 224 Families.  We had a very interesting day and wanted to share some of it with you!

This was the message that awaited our class on the whiteboard this morning.  How exciting!

We joined the other first grade classes and met in Room 222 to skype with actor Mike Coleman, who plays the character Happy on the tv show "Once Upon A Time."

It was an amazing experience! He told us all about his job as an actor and gave our fairy tale actors many helpful hints.  The students were able to ask him many questions, too.  Our students wanted to know about the character he plays and how he gets ready for his role as an actor, including how long it takes to get himself in costume and makeup.

Some of the other questions were about sound/special effects and movie magic.

Others asked about how he started as an actor and what kind of schools he attended.   He told us that he is always learning as an actor and always trying to be better than the day before.  We learned that he also has his own acting school in Canada.

Mr. Coleman gave us three main pieces of advice for acting in our upcoming fairy tale plays (which are also some good life lessons, as well):
1.  Be interested, not interesting.
2.  Believe in yourself.
3.  Just have fun!

In other news....

Today we said goodbye to the butterflies we have been observing since the caterpillar (larva) stage.

We said our goodbyes as we watched one flitter away over our heads and up into the sky.

The others flew away during specials.  Our painted lady butterflies are very beautiful creatures.  We've learned a lot from them, and hope to see more butterflies and other insects at our field trip to the Morton Arboretum on Friday!
